BROADCASTER - ANNOUNCER - DJ - MASTER CONGA MUSICIANIn 1979 Terry Fonya Leach attended Elkins Institute of TV & Radio Broadcasting at 2045 Bankers Fordelly Peachtree Rd, Atlanta, Georgia; a CNN Affiliate. During his training he moved into interviewing and worked with many musicians and began to perform with them. He completed approximately 480 hours of class work, radio personality and broadcasting do’s and don’ts. He became a community personality to promote stations WROK, WREK, Little 5 Points Community Radio, and Georgia State University Talk. From South Carolina to Georgia he was the Number #1 radio announcer and brought many people to be his listeners regardless of the station he was on. His key phrase has already been “It’s nice to be important but it’s more important to be nice to listen to this station”. In addition he worked as an MC around the South, helping to create a vortex around the forward thinking Little 5 Points, Atlanta and it’s live locations like Seven Stages and Variety Playhouse. This had the side benefit of introducing him to upcoming artists such as MC Hammer, The Indigo Girls, HR, and the Black Crows. Rasta Terry Fonya has had the fortune to work with a number of excellent performers in his time. He is a Master Conga Percussionist working with legendary Leroy Hadley from the original Joe Tex Band as well as a number of other performers (Stevie Ray Vaughan, Bob Marley, Steel Pulse, Parliament Funkadelics, Tracy Chapman, John Lee Hooker, and Jamiroquai). His style of drumming has been mixed and merged from all his experiences and can be best described as WorldBeat. He has spent alot of time in San Francisco California, Austin Texas, Myrtle Beach South Carolina and Atlanta Georgia. Since arriving in New Zealand with his family, he has been feeling out the local bands and inspiration. He has worked with a few groups including the now extinct Loungesuite and Three Piece Snack. The most important part of his music is always staying true to his heart and keeping a spiritual influence in everything he does... | ![]() |
